What's Happened to American Democracy? – Silence on Impeachment against the President

Attached below is an email sent out by Democrats.com <activist@democrats.com> reporting on "Rep. Dennis Kucinich introduced 35 Articles of Impeachment against President George W. Bush". Representative Kucinich, a long-time staunch opponent of the Iraq war, was a contestant for the Democratic candidate in the 2004 and this year's presidential campaigns. This event typically reveals the following essential aspects of US politics and mainstream media:

1. The US constitution guarantees the congressmen's right to impeach their president for a reason and protects them and all people from persecution for doing and supporting that action (though it cannot protect them from possible murders as had happened before in the US, so it still takes great courage to do it). This is what is good about US politics.

2. The leaders of the Democratic Party do not support this impeachment though the majority of the American people, according to recent years' polls, strongly oppose Bush's wrong policies. This shows that the Democratic Party as an opposition party does not represent the will and interests of the majority of American people and that the US party politics does not serve their interests at all.

3. The US election system is no longer able to select either an administration or a congress "of the people, by the people, for the people".

4. All the major TV networks have kept silent about this major political event. This shows that the US mainstream media is in the hands of the big capitals, that is, the same interest groups behind the two major parties. And the so-called "freedom of press" and "neutrality" of their news reporting, which they have been bragging about and promoting all over the world, is only their "freedom " to hide news that is really important to the interests of the people and to hoodwink them into blindly following their boss's special-interest policies.

 5. Combining the above points, we can see that, so long as capital dominates over labor in the economic realm, it will inevitably lead to the domination of big capitals over small capitals and all other people in economic, political, and public opinion realms, especially those big capitals in finance, military industry, and such other strategical resources industries as grain, petroleum, etc. And this domination has paralyzed what is right in the political procedure, preventing it from working effectively and making it a deceitful ornament.

THE TEXT OF THE EMAIL

On Monday, Rep. Dennis Kucinich made history on the floor of the House by reading 35 Articles of Impeachment against President George W. Bush.
At last!!!!!

We've waited years to find one Member of Congress brave enough to stand up for our Constitution, for which generations of Americans have fought and died. We are thrilled and honored that Dennis Kucinich has chosen to be that one genuine patriot.

We congratulate him on his historic leadership, and pledge to do everything in our power to persuade the House to adopt all 35 Articles and put George W. Bush on trial before the Senate of the United States, exactly as the Founding Fathers wanted.

Of course, Speaker Nancy Pelosi (CA-8), Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (MD-5), and Democratic Caucus Chair Rahm Emanuel (IL-5) all remain adamantly opposed to impeachment - despite the overwhelming evidence of High Crimes, including the "Phase II" report by the Senate Intellligence Committee and Scott McClellan's new book.
And when Rep. Robert Wexler (FL-19) called for Judiciary Committee hearings on Kucinich's Articles of Impeachment against Vice President Cheney in January, only 17 Democrats joined them: Neil Abercrombie (HI-1), Tammy Baldwin (WI-2), Michael Capuano (MA-8), Yvette Clarke (NY-11), Lacy Clay (MO-1), Steve Cohen (TN-9), Peter DeFazio (OR-4), Keith Ellison (MN-5), Sam Farr (CA-17), Raúl Grijalva (AZ-7), Luis Gutierrez (IL-4), Barbara Lee (CA-9), Gwen Moore (WI-4), Jim Moran (VA-8), Mike Thompson (CA-1), Ed Towns (NY-10), and Lynn Woolsey (CA-6).

So Kucinich's heroic efforts will be in vain unless we inundate Congress with emails and calls (202-224-3121) showing our full support for Rep. Kucinich's 35 Articles of Impeachment:
