The New Legalist editor’s note:
This is an excerpt from the report Rural Small-Scale Industry in the People’s Republic of China edited by The American Rural Small-Scale Industry Delegation after visiting China during the Cultural Revolution. This excerpt explains why China under Mao’s leadership could make such great achievements in socialist construction, which successfully laid a solid foundation for her later economic upsurge. It is not only a sharp contrast beyond imagination to the neoliberalist ideology and practice in the Western capitalist world, but also a powerful repudiation of all attacks on Mao-led China and Cultural Revolution.
